In connection with the presentation of the new SS15 collection to Høie of Scandinavia, organized by the talented girls behind Dare to Design Studio here in Trondheim I have been allowed to select some products, and furnish with those on my way here at home. On our bedroom choice fell on my bedsheets Ane in 50% linen and 50% cotton, and it's delicious blanket Havørn viktorija in pure new wool. Love the softness in both bedding and blanket, as well as the texture and the contrast between cotton, viktorija linen and wool. Fits our simple and monochrome style perfectly. viktorija Both can be purchased here. This week lucky me got to play around with some news from Høie of Scandinavia. For our bedroom, I chose a super soft bed linen in 50% cotton and 50% linen and a fabulous woolen blanket in pure wool new. I must say thatthis suits our simple and monochrome style just perfect. Check out the whole Høie of Scandinavia collection here. I love the feeling of clean, new bedding against bare skin. | Ruth Elise I love the feeling of clean, new bedding against bare skin. Being able to lie down at night, pulling shotime in the scent of freshly washed linens, shaping pad exactly as it should be and know that you will soon be getting a well-deserved good night sleep. It's amazing. There's nothing like escaping from the real world and enter dreamland for a few hours. Reply linens are some of the best that exists in this world: D (that sentence sounded judgment out xD) but it's just love to lie in new bedding to smell the new bedding as you say .. simply wonderful: ) Cancel For God so loved the world that he gave his son the enebårne. Ask siblings or other on what you want for Christmas, so why not answer sheets! Then you get something practical, something useful, also there is the delightful with a little renovation also in the bedroom. Just remember to mention simultaneously what size your quilts have! ;) I recently purchased this bedding, liked both the color and the geometric vellux blanket pattern very well. Should perhaps vellux blanket removing the packaging first, this was a little free advertising, hi, hi, but it can only be so, deluxe bedding was anyway! :) Have a vague plan to renew the entire bedroom bit, but think maybe it will wait until early next year, replacing vellux blanket the images including, get some new color splotches on the walls here and there, but not too much should the time be a certain tranquility of a bedroom. ... But now it "mild neutral calm tones" vellux blanket in the bedroom really important? Everything looks the dark gray out whenever you turn off the light at night ... well at least in the winter! ;) Feel free to follow Glass Veranda on Instagram, and / or Facebook too, and have a still great week! : 0) Big hug, Ann, Glass Veranda. December 2014 at. 10:12 Supports comment from Eva Kristin, good to have you back in Blogglandia:-) And you are absolutely right and I've vellux blanket never thought about it before, why should we have delicate pastels vellux blanket in the bedroom, they seem the not when one spends most of the time one spends there. Delightful with some bold colors. Shall take with me the next time I even going to buy bedding. Wish you a nice førjulsdag:-) 9. December 2014 at. 09.26 Thank Merete! Blog Nobody has gone a bit jerky, vellux blanket so it is incredibly nice to see that you / you come back anyway when I then start blogging again! There is now only a few days until the sun again will peek into the windows at us, we do not live far enough north that we are allowed to call it "darkness", but as previously mentioned hello kitty bedding here at Glass Veranda so there is a mountain here in town making sure we still lose the sun around November 20th, and then the sun gone to approximately 20th January. Thinking not very much of it, as the days the horrible short and quite so dark these two months wherever in this country one lives, but now the days grow noticeably brighter and longer every day, and I am now fighting ready for sun and vårfølelsen that always accompany "Solkommerdag"! :)) The time from the sun back to the snow melts, the temperature rises and birch trees will eventually get new green small mouse ears tend fortunately to go fast! ;) I've said it so many times before, I'm pretty sure I simply go solar, because I can literally feel the energy level my sun now approaching! : D Dry Washing and bedroom-shining stood on the program today, not so exciting, but I will try to have it "dust-free" before the sun peeks into windows here again in a few days! -For One can of course say that you have it clean, but when the sun comes one frequently gets "shock" hello kitty bedding anyway! : DI day stood my and husband their bedrooms for the tour, all surfaces, shelves, benches, lists, pictures and other things in the room was dust dried, vacuumed, washed, mirrors and windows plastered and bedding changed, hello kitty bedding it was so wonderful to be able to a new bright colored bed set now as it goes toward brighter, lighter times, indeed properly refreshing hello kitty bedding it was! This is incidentally a bed set I bought just before hello kitty bedding Christmas, it goes in turquoise blues and mint, reminding both blue skies and azure seas! :)) As mentioned in another linen-b sign post before Christmas, so I have a vague plan to renew this bedroom a bit, maybe swap some lamps, perhaps replacing the images and thus bring in some more color splotches on the walls here and there, we'll see ... Speaking of colors ... photos were snapped in lamplight, never particularly lucky for wall here watching the almost pink out in the lamplight, it's really a kind of gray ... "greige" ... you can see the color in daylight hello kitty bedding so it actually looks on lowermost image in another blog, HERE. And if someone hello kitty bedding were wondering: No. I fail not bedclothes hello kitty bedding before hello kitty bedding I put it on, it'll hello kitty bedding just be a little wrinkled! ;) Tomorrow I hope to maybe go at the next bedroom, with a little effort help from her husband and kids so maybe I manage to get it "dust-free" at least in 2.etasje within "Solkommerdag"! ;) Feel free to follow Glass Veranda on Instagram, and / or Facebook too, and happy weekend! : 0) Big hug, Ann, Glass Veranda. Thank you! :)) Yes today it rains here, I must admit that I find it SO wonderful! : D Has set alta door ajar so that I literally can hear the snow melt and run down into gutters and into the drain! ;) And the birds are equally værgale like me, they are twittering about cutting out the trees, nor do they look at the calendar, just on the weather and thinking what I think: VÅÅÅR! : D Sun is also back, supposedly behind rain clouds today, but it helps big on blue skies only to know that it's there, ready for the next shuns free today! ;) Have a nice week all three! This week just flown away and I have spent much time on adding floor in the attic. Dad came to helping me yesterday, so now it's almost flooring throughout the attic :) We agreed that I can build me a room with a door that I can isolate. So can I have my own little carpenter and have stock on the rest of the attic. Ingenious and practical at once :) But even with a busy week, so I've got time for a reusable project. And I just crave reuse, it's so much fun to use things to throw into something completely different. I have long been spared on a stretch sheets bedding sets (which bedding sets had some holes), and a move to a foam mattress that I did not use. I pinpointed scissors and cut up strips and crocheted together into a rye. 3. Crochet bedding sets 2/2 dc in each stitch (12 stitches) 4. Crochet 2/2 dc in first stitch, single, double, single (every other round whole) 5. Crochet 2/2 dc in first stitch, half stake in the next two, etc. 6 . Crochet 2 hdc in first stitch, half stake in the next three, etc. 7. Work 2 hdc in first stitch, half stake in the next four, etc. 8. Work 1 hdc in all meshes bedding sets 9. Crochet 2 hdc in the first mask, half stake in the next five, etc. Were it not cool? I think that the soft blue against the striped created movement and made it a little more exciting. Also bind it together in that it is blue stripes in Soff outside. So if you have some old bedding or sheets bedding sets to be thrown, bedding sets then you can crochet With an ultra rye to have in the house instead throwing them. Ingeniously, fun also creates something that nobody else has :) Have you incidentally seen that there is a new design blog? I am so proud and happy, and a little proud to have designed it myself. bedding sets Things will still be improved in a short time, but lovely to have a more personal moderneog design in place. Now you have all enjoy what is left of the evening. I was so lucky that I managed a small skiing in city, so now I'll jump into bed. Tomorrow awaits brand new facilities at Toensberg, job has moved. We blogged;) Hey Ruth Iren :) Sorry I who intend wrong dishes up asap. Rya is 68 cm wide, so is between bedding sets big :) But if you want bigger rye so simply bedding sets continue the same way :) thanks for telling me: D You can use these HTML tags and attributes: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title = ""> <acronym title = ""> <b> <blockquote cite = ""> <cite> < code> bedding sets <del datetime = ""> <em> <i> <q cite = ""> <strike> <strong>

Clothes that are comfy and chic at the same time are like foods that are mutually healthy and tasty. In other words, the best joys in life. As I’ve mentioned before, I didn’t think I could pull off the silky harem pants until I tried on the Gold Hawk versions and fell in love. This pair wears a little bit slouchier, and the polka dots make them a bit more playful than the solid black. At the same time I found these, I instantly became obsessed with the silk pocket tee, another Gold Hawk staple that I simply must get in black and navy too. It’s comfy and soft, but so easy to dress up because it’s silk. In this case, I threw the two together to create the softest, loungiest, floatiest, yet sleek outfit I can muster up. Add in some Chucks, Rockstuds, gold bling, and you get one happy girl who’s ready to tackle a day of e-mails, lunch with a friend, or an endless list of errands. Gold Hawk top and pants, Valentino bag (FINALLY back in stock!), Converse shoes , Prada sunglasses , Kate Spade earrings , Rings: H&M, Forever21, Bracelets: Jewelmint , BGBGeneration, Kate Spade, Nixon watch (c/o Watch Co ) Photography by Ian Sheppard I love your silky/slouchy pants! I totally agree, comfy clothes that are still stylish are treasures. I love that you paired the easy but dressed up pieces with converse… super cute! Totally digging the silky harem pants. I myself live in jersey slouchy pants but the bf hates the way they sag. However these gold hawn ones look WAY more attractive but still comfortable! Need to get a pair! Super cute casual look! Sometimes we spend so much time trying to make something new, different, and special that we forget about the tried and true basics. I’m always emigrantas looking for the next cocktail with some sort of artisanal element like a special herb or exotic fruit when I’m ordering at a bar, but I’m the first person emigrantas to appreciate something simple and effortless when it comes to making drinks at home. A vodka gimlet is about the easiest, most basic cocktail you can make and adding mint makes it taste that much fresher. This one is worth keeping limes and mint in the fridge on a rolling basis for spring and summer. Put about 10 mint leaves at the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the juice of 2 limes and simple syrup. Muddle but don’t be too hardcore emigrantas about it. You want the mint flavor to blend with the other ingredients but you don’t want it to break into a million pieces (not fun for sipping). Add about 5 ice cubes (crushed is better for this drink, if you have it), and the vodka. Shake. There are two ways to serve it – in a lowball with all the ingredients, or strained into a martini glass. Depends on how glamorous you’re emigrantas feeling. I’m like you, always trying to find the next exciting drink (I actually posted about one with pear nectar today), but sometimes emigrantas the classics are all you need :) […] of my favorite emigrantas drink recipes I’m hoping to try out soon. 1. Peach Rosemary Summer Fizz 2. Mint Gimlet 3. Mandarin Prosecco Mimosas 4. Blood Orange Vodka Cocktail 5. Pear Nectar and Thyme […] […] Mint gimlets. I have become quite the gimlet girl (I prefer mine with vodka vs. gin) and a little mint and lime make this the perfect cocktail for cooling off after a long, hot day. […] Hi I'm Catherine Sheppard! A few months ago, I shared the cover and fashion spread I styled for The Knot’s fall issue . Now, I’m so excited to show you Round 2 – the Winter issue! This one was extra thrilling to be a part of. Once again, the amazing Elizabeth Messina photographed some of the most gorgeous photos I’ve ever been lucky enough to have a hand in. The Villa at Sunstone Vineyards was the incredible setting – the most perfect place to spend a day. When we packed up, I did not want to leave as the sun was setting and the evening breeze was blowing. Dolce Designs created the floral wonderland that make this dream come to life. Erin Skipley brought her impeccable hair and makeup talent and made our gorgeous models look even more gorgeous. I’ll admit, I’m like a giddy school girl getting to work with such stunning gowns like these from Monique Lhuillier , Marchesa , Claire Pettibone , Reem Acra , Ines de Santo , and Samuelle who designed that tulle stunner on the cover. Even the mens styles had me swooning with a tux by Yves Saint Laurent , the most perfect shirt by Dolce and Gabbana , and my favorite – the oversized Lanvin bowties (all thanks to Mr. Porter ). And don’t even get me started on the diamonds… Catherine, bedeck The Knot Winter Issue | Glitter Weddings 11/07/2012 Reply […] The Knot Winter 2012 in this sweet flower Wonderland, Show Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa, Claire Pettibone, Reem Acra, Ines de Santo and Samuelle beautiful wedding dresses, photographer Elizabeth Messina! via […] Notify me of follow-up comments by email. When it comes to New Years Eve attire, it takes some serious restraint for me not to wear sequins. Not that it’s necessary to hold back from sparkle. There’s no reason to, other than it’s kinglinen a nice challenge to come up with something equally kinglinen as show stopping without a sequin in sight. This feather cape speaks for itself. It may not be the most wearable piece throughout the year, but I suppose not evvvvverything needs to be practical, does it? A black jumpsuit on the other hand is a staple every girl needs. I love how easy it is to glam up for something as extravagant as NYE but you can easily transform it into a more all-business look by swapping the feathers for a blazer and the heels for d’Orsay flats. Done and done. I have to be honest though, this New Years is shaping up to be a low key one. I haven’t really been home since I moved into a new place during Thanksgiving weekend. So I’m looking forward kinglinen to grabbing dinner or perhaps a game of Cards Against Humanity. What are you doing for NYE and more importantly, what are you wearing? http://www.thelifbissue.com Hi I'm Catherine Sheppard! There is no feeling like cozying up in a great coat in the winter time – especially a coat that’s delightfully anthea turner engulfing. I love this one because it spared no drama with its extra long length, flared shape, anthea turner and oversized collar. In this particular look, I felt like a film noir private eye in special winter garb (since a classic trench might not be warm enough for those cold winter investigations… I guess?). The berry lip ( Scarlet Empress by NARS ) added a little anthea turner extra glam factor which is a nice change from my default nude. If I lived in a colder climate, I would love to have several variations of this outfit and wear them everyday to get through winter. That looks is so so gorgeous on you, in love with the lipstick as well, perfection! Love, Kirsten Hi I'm Catherine anthea turner Sheppard! Thanks anthea turner for checking anthea turner out my blog, where I love to share my daily personal style and fashion inspiration.
I’ve been wanting a good cape for years. everon Specifically something that’s basically a blanket but acceptable to wrap around myself and leave the house in yet still manage to look chic. When I came across this one at Faribault Woolen Mill during my trip home to Minnesota over Christmas, I didn’t hesitate for a second about buying it. I love the plaid, the colors, the length, the hood, and most of all the fact that it was made in the next little town over from where I grew up. It was perfect to throw on when the house got a little cold while I was there, but it also works great as an “LA winter” coat. It felt refreshing to find a great piece that’s unique, authentic, and made by a company I can trust. It’s getting harder and harder to find things that are made with integrity in the US, no matter how “down home” the branding might be. Kinda frustrating. For this look I paired it with my other favorite domestic purchase of late, my cowboy boots from Allen’s Boots in Austin. Yes, cowboy! More on my newfound western wear obsession soon. In the meantime I’ll be curled up over here in my cozy cape with a cup of coffee and not being mad about it one bit. Bridget 01/15/2015 Reply Hi I'm Catherine Sheppard! If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you may have figured out that I have a real nerdy side. Exhibit A: my dinosaur obsession that goes back to kindergarten when we had to sew stuffed animals (how/why they were giving accuquilt kindergartners needles escapes me at the moment) and I of course chose to make a brontosaurus over a bunny or a cat. Or… in junior high I had a t-shirt accuquilt that said “DNA is life – the rest is just details.” Remember those? Yeah, no basketball (or anything cool) here. I thought I was so clever. Well, now I’m a full-on accuquilt adult and I wear shirts with light sabers on them. I don’t know what to tell you. I get the most excited about an outfit that has a playful nod to something that’s not fashion related at all. This getup feels fit for a networking event on Mars. Useful as can be… katie 01/29/2015 Reply Hi I'm Catherine Sheppard! A fashion stylist living in Los Angeles, by way of New York and Minnesota. Being the Moscow Mule lover I am, I’m van dyck always trying to think of other ways to spin that cocktail. The ginger beer is the key ingredient, and while it goes so well with vodka and lime, I’m craving something a little smokier for fall. This fancied up version of the Dark & Stormy is my new jam. It’s made with dark spiced rum (not a bad staple liquor to keep around for this season), fresh lemon juice instead of lime, some grated ginger for extra zing, thyme for some added complexity, and crystalized ginger for a garnish treat. Dark & Stormies are typically served in Tom Collins glasses, but I’m a fan of a shorter, stronger, more sip-able version. It’s so easy to make yet special enough to serve as a signature cocktail on Thanksgiving or at a fall soiree. MAKE IT: 2 oz dark spiced rum like Kraken van dyck 3 oz ginger beer (I love Maine Root’s version because it’s the spiciest van dyck I have found, and not too sweet) 1/2 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice Small sprig of fresh thyme to mix in A dash of grated ginger Crystalized ginger and fresh thyme for garnish Chill a lowball glass with a few ice cubes. Combine the rum, lemon juice, thyme and ginger in a shaker with ice and mix. Strain the mixture through a mesh strainer into your glass. Top the drink off with ginger beer. Garnish with candied van dyck ginger on a toothpick and a sprig of thyme. this looks lovely and perfect for autumn!! i have been wanting to try kraken, but haven’t gotten around to it. we are hosting some friends for a friendsgiving, so perhaps i will add this to the menu! Hi I'm Catherine Sheppard! A fashion stylist living in Los Angeles, by way of New York and Minnesota. Thanks for checking out my blog, where I love to share my daily personal van dyck style and fashion inspiration.
This drink and I have had a rough road. Not for the reasons you might expect, but because the first time I had it, I was unpleasantly surprised at how little I liked it. It was at a fancy shmancy place in Palm Springs, and that particular bar served it in a pint glass (there’s your first problem) with about a drop of tequila leblanc counters and way too much of the sweet stuff. leblanc counters It tasted like juice. Artisanal juice, but juice. I respect that some people like their cocktails to taste like dessert, but not me. I like to know if there is booze in what I’m drinking and I don’t like too much sugar in there. I was sad and disappointed. After all, this recipe had two ingredients that would normally make any drink a winner for me – ginger beer and hot sauce – but it was definitely a no go. I thought for sure we were over, until my girl Jaimi made her own version of the recipe for a party and this time it was much more my speed. Smokey, a little sweet, unmistakably non-virgin, and served in a much more civilized slow sipping glass, it was glorious. So needless to say, me and El Diablo are officially back on, and he’s moved into my bar cart for good. Here’s my go at the feisty little leblanc counters devil… In a cocktail shaker combine tequila, creme de cassis, the juice from the two lime halves, and as many drops of Tapatio as your little heart can take. Shake it up, pour it into a sassy yet intelligent glass. Top with ginger beer, add the extra lime slice, and stir. Sip away! http://www.thecasualclassic.com […] perfect for a little Halloween bash, don’t you think? There are some people who you don’t want to meet in the morning before they’ve had their cup of coffee. They go from red eyed monsters into functioning human beings. I’ve never been one of those people, but I crave the ritual of having a cup of coffee in the morning. As someone who loves to stay organized and keep to do lists (or Teux Deux lists in my case – you gotta try it if you haven’t already), the best part of waking up is sitting down with my coffee and getting my ducks in a row for what’s to come. We’ve seen all those Folgers commercials, but in our home the smell of coffee doesn’t gently wake us from our serene slumber…it’s usually our dogs pawing at our faces. Once upon a time the first order of the day was walking straight to Starbucks for my coffee which was both expensive and a hassle. The day I stopped latela relying on coffee runs for my morning fix in favor of our first Nespresso machine was the start of something new and great. Not only am I not spending $4 on a latte every day, Nespresso also never misspells my name. No matter how many times I have thrown boiling hot coffee at the baristas while screaming “It’s Catherine with a C” they never seemed to get it right. Rude. ;) But now I’m into a double Ristretto, Indriya, or Dulsao latela blend latte with steamed almond latela milk, a little maple syrup or honey, and cinnamon on top. SO good. Even better, recently Nespresso was kind enough to send me their new VertuoLine latela machine to try out which also makes coffee. Huge! I love having the option latela to change it up according to my mood and offer our overnight guests whatever their morning happy drink is , even if they’re a red eyed monster craving their regular full cup of coffee to return to normal and start their day…. Another game changer for the morning routine: our patio, which up until this week was strictly used as storage. We had this great private outdoor space attached to our apartment and it was filled with dirty bikes, stray tools, empty Amazon boxes and a six pack of Red Bull cans. We don’t even drink Red Bull! It was a disaster. We finally got rid of a lot of extra junk, put some fig trees, lanterns, potted latela plants, and garden lights out there, and now it’s latela my new favorite place to do work in the morning. Amazing what a difference latela a little refresher can make on your daily life! I love a cup of coffee first thing in the morning (but I’m getting to my first cup at 3pm today… oops). The ritual is the best part and I can’t wait to furnish our new patio so I can sip a cuppa outside! Hi I'm Catherine latela Sheppard! A fashion stylist living in Los Angeles, by way of New York and Minnesota. Thanks for checking out my blog, where I love to share my daily personal style and fashion inspiration.
Sometimes I find that it’s best to devote your attention to one aspect of your style at a time. Making updates can be time consuming linens direct and expensive, so rather than trying to shop for new ankle boots and throw pillows on one morning coffee, it helps to have tunnel vision on one category while you let the rest take a breather. As summer came to a close, I was on a rampage for blazers and leather trimmed dark jeans (a fall closet refresh which I plan to go back to soon), linens direct but lately linens direct I’ve been home focused. It was time. Time to put away a few pillows and accents that were starting to feel like old choices I no longer stand behind, and bring in some new pieces that honor our combined styles and help make better use of the space. We started with the living room and with the help of the insanely talented Jessica Marx , rearranged, repurposed, and refreshed. We made no major furniture purchases, aside from the credenzas – a new sofa and coffee table are next on the list. So for now we just focused linens direct on accessories, but the results feel more impactful. Jessica found these ram skull lamps at Home Goods, which I still can’t even believe. I love the way they toughen up the room and add more balance to a lot of the feminine details that creeped in and started taking over the place. If you live in LA and you know what’s good for you, chances are you’re already obsessed with a little patisserie on Melrose called wake up frankie Bo Nuage . This little nook of heaven specializes in the most unfathomably delicious wake up frankie (yet somehow wake up frankie healthier wake up frankie than cupcakes or ice cream) nuage, aka cloud cakes. Extra points for gluten free and kosher as well. If you haven’t had one yet, promptly abandon your day’s plans and make your way there immediately. wake up frankie We’re talking various flavors of meringue layered with non-dairy cream (not to make them healthier but simply because soy cream made for a better wake up frankie tasting treat than dairy cream in this case) and rolled in chocolate shavings. Passion fruit and peanut butter are my favorites, but let’s forget about the cakes for just a second. Can we take a moment… how wonderfully perfect is the design of this place? Black and white graphic contrast from floor to ceiling, accented with shiny rose gold in every unexpected corner. It has the unwavering talent of my dear friend Jessica of J. Marx Atelier all over it. It was so fun getting to see sneak peaks of her inspiration while it was in process and when I first saw the finished product the day it opened, my mind was blown. In fact, she designed this place with such perfection that she has been selected by AIA Los Angeles as a finalist for the 2014 AIA Restaurant Design Awards under the cafe/bar category, right up next to other new gorgeous hot spots around the world (eh hem, but not as gorgeous). Let’s wake up frankie ALL make sure she wins in the people’s choice category, OK? All you have to do is vote here . It takes 2 seconds, and there’s only 10 days left until the awards. I mean, nothing tops her work on Bo Nuage – she really deserves this. See it for yourself, there’s eye candy and heavenly cloud cakes abound. Do I even have to mention that they’re served in little hat boxes? Come on! Hi I'm Catherine Sheppard! A fashion stylist wake up frankie living in Los Angeles, by way of New York and Minnesota. It’s true – Minnesota does have its fair share of sprawling cornfields quilted bedspreads and cow herds, but that’s not all it’s known for. There are some real one-of-a-kind shopping gems in these parts. One of my favorite places to hit up when I’m in town is Hunt & Gather , an eclectic antique store in south Minneapolis that is well stocked quilted bedspreads with more over-the-top quirky finds than you could ever imagine. I have been known to spend hours browsing each and every corner of this place – 25 booths to be exact – for cool statement items that would jazz up any room in the house. On my visit this weekend, I scored some clever stemmed quilted bedspreads glasses for the bar cart at $4 a piece. Who needs an early morning flea market when you can spend all your summer quilted bedspreads days here? i hope you had a great time in MSP! again, so excited i got to meet you on friday! too bad i missed you at H&G! WHAT?? I had no idea you were here last weekend! I was at Hunt & Gather myself either quilted bedspreads last weekend or the week before, can’t remember anymore. But I certainly love this place like no other! Glad you could blog about it. :) xx. Now THAT looks like a fun store! quilted bedspreads We just started something similar in Morris, IL, near Chicago — our biz is called True North. But any-hoo, my stepdaughter + family live in Minneapolis, so I’ll no doubt visiting Hunt + Gather quilted bedspreads in person some day! Hi I'm Catherine Sheppard! Sometimes the best things in your home are the ones that required some work. Last summer, my mission was to find a bar cart. But I wasn’t going to be happy with any bar cart. I wanted a vintage bar cart and I wanted a fixer upper. I’m not normally one to ask for extra manual labor, but in this case I just loved the idea of finding a hidden treasure and making it over to something shiny and new. So I hit the Rose Bowl flea market… and Long Beach… and Fairfax… and Pasadena… and the Rose Bowl again. orakulas I had all my friends on the case. I scoured Craigslist, Etsy, and Ebay. After six months of obsessive searching, crying fits, and questioning my life, I was ready to give up and buy a file cabinet from Staples in which to store a 6-pack of Pabst. But then I got the call. Jessica orakulas of Life’s Little Jems , who’s a super talented orakulas interior designer and treasure hunting maven , was scouring orakulas a junkyard in Sun Valley (as you do) and found the perfect one… or at least it had the potential to be perfect. So I dropped my bowl of cereal on the floor (not really but doesn’t that make it sound more epic?) and ran out the door to go see this beauty. The yard was filled with an array of fascinating things all piled up like a scene from Wall-e . I was there for all of about 5 minutes before this piece of abandoned tarnished mess (mine for the price of $45) was loaded up in the back of my car and we were on our way home. I had no idea what it was going to take to get this thing looking presentable, nor was I sure it was even possible. The handle was broken off, the wheels were warped, and the shelves had at some point shaped into rhombuses. But before it could show its face to a professional of any kind, it needed to be polished. Ian and I spent a Saturday afternoon giving it an olympic quality scrub with Brasso so it would at least look like brass, orakulas and then it was ready for the metal guy – the hardest part. Silly me, a brass solderer is NOT the same as a welder. It took another month of searching and then finally – thanks to Alissa of The Goods Design (another amazingly talented interiors guru) I finally found a great guy down in El Segundo who could take my case. Phew! After a few weeks at this brass doctor, who enlisted his friend the glass guy to provide the custom orakulas shelves, it was finally ready to go home. Now it was time for the best part – dressing it up and getting it ready for action. I hit the flea market again the next Sunday, where I found a horse head bottle opener, orakulas delicate coupe glasses for Absinthe aperitifs, and my favorite set of numbered Tom Collins glasses. I added in a stack of prohibition-y cocktail recipe books, my favorite little single serving Sofia champagnes (no bubble left behind!), colorful straws, and liquor bottles many of which were chosen solely for their design. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I wanted to create the feeling that any cocktail could be mixed at any given time and I think we achieved that. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I’m not gonna lie – when you tally up the cost of cart itself, the polishing supplies, the soldering, and the glass, I could have bought a brand new or refurbished vintage one and saved myself orakulas the trouble. But where’s the fun in that? To top it off, it was ready just in time to make its debut in Glitter Guide ‘s feature about my home yesterday. Hop on over to check it out if you missed it! Just found you over on GG and am so glad I did; I’ve spent a solid hour browsing your archives (I’m going back in for more!) and couldn’t be more smitten with your blog! You are most definitely a woman after my own heart. Adding you to my blogroll orakulas over on my site now, and will be back for more! Ok- I just fell in love with you a little bit-seriously! I can’t tell you how many times I have done a similar orakulas thing: Obsess over finding something to fix up, and then spend so much time, effort, and money making it perfect. And you’re right- it would almost always be faster, easier, and cheaper to buy new. But these projects always end up becoming orakulas my most cherished pieces. I can’t give up the obsession! Thanks for sharing! orakulas COMMENT Oh. My. Gosh. I think I just died a little – this is THE perfect bar cart. I’m recently married and we have some leftover liquor and I’ve been dreaming of getting a beautiful vintage bar cart to store it all, and you’ve just inspired me even more. LOVE! x You truly have a fantastic imagination. When I saw what the bar cart first looked like, I personally would have passed that up. I’m sure everyone thought you were crazy but you have absolutely done it. The phrase “bringing orakulas back something to life” is the epitamy of what

I’m not normally a fan of drinks that include sweet soda (with the very specific exception of a Moscow Mule ) but when I came across this one, I had to give it a try. I’ve heard that the paloma almost beats the margarita for the most popular drink in Mexico, which surprises me considering that up until I made this one I had never tried any version of it. It’s usually made with grapefruit soda which sounds right up my alley, but there’s something about the blood orange and thyme that just begged to be combined in this version. Why deny what’s meant to be? I love how easy this cocktail is to make yet it has the vibe of being complex and artisanal. lealtex It would be perfect lealtex made in a big batch for a soiree or for even just a casual taco night at home. 2 oz silver tequila 4 oz all natural blood orange soda (I used Whole Foods brand) 1/2 oz fresh lime juice leaves of 3 sprigs lealtex of fresh thyme, roughly chopped thyme sprig for garnish 1 blood orange (slices for garnish) sea salt Combine the salt and thyme on a small plate. Use as much or as little salt as you like – I like to mix in a little sugar too since I don’t like too much salt. Crush the mixture together with your fingers. Wet the rim of a glass with lime and cover with the thyme salt. Add in a few ice cubes, and then top with the tequila, lime juice, soda and stir. Garnish with a blood orange slice and thyme sprig.
